Boxwars is a collective of amazing artists who build props and costumes out of cardboard. In this exclusive expose it seems things aren't always has they appear to be.

The Roots - Stomp

I am really looking forward to hearing the new Roots album 'Undun'. They are the hardest working band in the industry today.

Matisyahu - Running Away + Beatbox Freestyle (BOB MARLEY COVER)

Sometimes an awesome artist just seems to pass you by. I have heard of Matisyahu but I havent really sat down to enjoy it, until today.

Sin Synik - Sinxtape Volume 1

So over the last few months, we here at A fatmommas project have been helping Melbourne Mc Sin Synik record his parts for the first DFTC album. In between recording these we recorded a few verses over some of Syniks favourite beats. These recordings have now become his first Mixtape released by Down For The Count Records. Compiled and mixed by Christian Biko the mixtape represents a few of the influences and styles Synik likes to incorporate in his flow. We here at A fatmommas project are very proud of Synik and look forward to working with him again.

Dj Pappas aka ASIO - Broken Mixtape

Prophecies Dj Asio Broken Mixtape by afatmommasproject This mix was done by a friend of ours Dj Pappas aka ASIO. Pappas has been Djing and promoting parties for has long has we have known him. What we really like about Pappas is his love for technology, he walks into the studio every week with a new midi controller, vst or programme. He his always highly motivated and definitely keeps things interesting around the fatmommas studio. Have a listen to his mix, this is the first time this vinyl junkie tried out Dj software traktor with a behringer Bcd3000 midi controller.

An Apple a day

You know, I really thought I was happy with my MacBook Pro. Now, I am not sure if I want the graphic plated or the smoothe 24kt gold finish. Here is the address, tell them we here at afatmommasproject sent you. www.computer-choppers.com

Bringing back vinyl. One hipster at a time.

DFTC - Down For The Count

So Fat Mommas recorded a few bits and pieces for this release by Melbournes DFTC. Check it out and purchase the album if you like what you hear. These guys are all very talented and we look forward to working with them again on the next project.

LauraOne & Sinks

We recorded the Vox for this at Fat Mommas house. It turned out alright, we even got a shout out. LAURA ONE & SINKS - "SPONTANEOUS" PROD BY JULIANO by Lauraone

POLICE AND THIEVES

'Police and Thieves' is a great track by Junior Murvin to get your riot themed playlist started.

Sunday Samples

DJ Sheep - WEIRD GEAR - JULY 2011 - 90’S WALL OF FAME MIX | Vinyl DJ Mix : Soul Strut

Here at a fatmommas project we love sampling, it is a major part of hip hop culture and undeniably popular music now. Taking what is old, unheard of, or forgotten about and recreating something new is a major skill in itself. Artists such has J Dilla, Dj Shadow, Daft Punk and Dangermouse unashamedly use samples and have done it very well. A lot of people think it is illegal to sample, but it is not. Many of the original artist's receive royalties when their music is used and some even experience a boost or rebirth in their careers. Whole genres like drum and bass have immerged around particular drum loops and samples, so who knows with todays technology what new style sampling could bring. If you are into hip hop and/or classic soul check out the live mix in the link above. This mix reminds us why we love the music we love and do the things we do here at a fatmommas project. The mix contains heaps of original breaks and samples and was done with original vinyl pressings by the infamous Dj Sheep At Weird Gear in Brisbane. Check him out if you get a chance.

Most Expensive Photo Ever

This self portrait of Cindy Sherman was taken in 1981.  When the photo was recently put up for auction
it sold for a massive $3,890,500.  Thats right, one photo.  I like this photo, why?  Maybe
because of the colours and the layout.  Maybe its in the eyes and pose or maybe because its expensive.
Anyway off to take some photos of myself, peace.

Ella Fitzgerald "Night & Day"

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
    When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you
Night and day, you are the one
Only you beneath the moon AND under the sun
Whether near to me, or far
It's no matter darling where you are
    I think of you
NIGHT AND DAY, DAY AND NIGHT, why is it so
That this longing for you follows wherever I go
    In the roaring traffic's boom
In the silence of my lonely room
    I think of you
NIGHT AND DAY, NIGHT AND DAY
    Under the hide of me
There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
And ITS torment won't be through
'TIL you let me spend my life making love to you
Day and night, night and day
    Under the hide of me
There's an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
And ITS torment won't be through
'TIL you let me spend my life making love to you
Day and night, night and day

Ghostfunk

Ghostfunk by Max Tannone

The more I listen to this the more I like it. Great African Funk and jazz mixed with accapellas from Wutangs Ghostface. Max Tannone has done a couple of good mash up albums but this one really hits the spot. And its free, Download links above.
